Enjoy a Zip Line Canopy Adventure

Zip lining is Costa Rica’s signature adventure, and the Costa Rica Triangle hands you the two best places in the country to do it. In Monteverde you fly through cloud forest, with mist moving between the cables. In Arenal you fly over rainforest valleys with the volcano on the horizon. You glide across cables anchored to platforms high in the trees, choosing your own speed as your guide coaches you along — and somewhere over the first valley, the nerves turn into pure joy.

Monteverde is the one already in your itinerary, and it’s the bigger flight. The circuit crosses the cloud forest cable after cable, including one that runs 1,590 meters — the park calls it the longest zip-line in Costa Rica. There’s a Superman cable you ride face-down like flight, a rappel, a hanging bridge, and a Mega Tarzan swing for anyone brave enough to step off it. Riders start from age six. We book the first departure of the morning, which is when the forest is quietest and the queues haven’t formed yet.

Back in Arenal, for families and first-timers, we use a gentle double-cable course. Its signature is the side-by-side cable: a guide or a parent can ride right next to a nervous flyer or a small child, so nobody flies alone and everybody finishes wanting to go again. The pace is relaxed, the views are big, and the confidence it builds is half the fun.

Chasing a real rush? The adrenaline option is a sprawling private ecological park spread across more than 1,300 acres at the foot of the volcano. Its zip-line circuit runs close to a kilometer and soars over the park’s own waterfall, and there’s a Tarzan swing for anyone brave enough to free-jump into it. The same park is laced with rainforest, so wildlife and scenery come built in.

Whichever course you choose, the essentials are the same: certified guides, double-checked harnesses and gear, and a full safety briefing before your feet ever leave a platform.
