Prefer a hotel? Say so

Every Destitrip trip is built around a private home — a kitchen, a door, and no lobby to walk through. We think it’s better for this trip and we say so plainly on the page that explains why. But we’ve also planned enough trips to know that sometimes a hotel is exactly right: you want breakfast made for you, a desk to ask, and someone to change the towels. Nobody should have to argue for that.

So this page exists for one question — can I have a hotel instead? — and the answer is yes, on any package, with no sigh and no surcharge for changing your mind.

Here’s the honest trade first, because it’s the part that decides it.

The difference you’ll feel by day two

Vetted Arenal hotels

Scored on the same five weighted dimensions as every guide on your trip, against the same 62,000 reviews. We’re naming them because you’re the one sleeping there — unlike the activity operators, a hotel is your choice to make.

What’s included

Two honest gaps, before you ask

These four are Arenal. Our route has three regions.

Monteverde and Manuel Antonio don’t have a vetted hotel list yet — the 62,000 reviews we read covered Arenal, and we’re doing that homework again region by region rather than pretending it transfers. If you want hotels on the full nine-day route, tell us and we’ll be straight with you about where we are on the day you ask.

And you’ll notice there’s no luxury option here. There’s a reason: the properties at that end of the market don’t fit the trip this site sells, and the ones we’d want to work with belong to a different product we’re not running yet. We’d rather show you four honest choices than five and a stretch.

How the swap works

It’s a conversation, not a checkbox.

Tell us which trip you’re looking at and that you’d rather have a hotel, and we’ll requote the whole thing with the hotel in it — one all-in number, every line explained, and the difference from the private-home version stated plainly. Then you pick. We don’t charge for the swap and we don’t push either way once you’ve heard the trade.

The number, since we said we’d show it

Here is the same trip, three ways.

Arenal Complete is five days and four nights: the volcano, the waterfall, the hot springs, the sloths, the farm and the canopy — the identical itinerary, the identical guides, every time. The only thing that moves is where you sleep. In a private home it’s about $874 for two. Swap in Monte Real and it’s roughly $1,170. Swap in Arenal Springs and it’s around $2,170.

We’re not showing you that to talk you out of a hotel. We’re showing you because it’s the single biggest decision on your bill and nobody else in this business puts it on a public page — they wait until you’re attached to the trip and then quote it. The hotels are genuinely good; two of them are on this list precisely because we’d sleep there ourselves. They just cost what they cost, and you deserve to know that at the start rather than at the end.

⚑ Provisional while we close two rates: the airport transfer, and how tax is handled on your total. Both will move these numbers slightly. Neither will change the shape of them.

Transparent Price + Real Response

Whichever you choose, it’s one number agreed before you pay — stay, guides, activities and transfers, with nothing to settle at the desk. And once you’re here, a real person answers in under 15 minutes while we’re working — with a number to call for anything urgent, day or night.

Want the hotel version priced?

Tell us your dates, your group and which trip you’re looking at. We’ll send both numbers — hotel and private home — and let you decide with the real figures in front of you.

One thing that doesn’t change either way: every trip we run starts in La Fortuna, and from December through April the region books out months ahead. The hotels fill on the same calendar our own homes do.
