Hot Springs in Arenal

After a day of trails and waterfalls, you slip into a river the volcano keeps warm.

That’s the moment the trip slows down — and the one travelers say they miss most when they get home. Arenal sits on the most extensive network of natural hot springs in Costa Rica, fed by the volcano itself, and an evening soak isn’t a side activity here; it’s the rhythm the whole region runs on. Warm, mineral-rich water, steam rising into the rainforest, a drink in hand, the day melting off your shoulders. It’s the reason we give Arenal four nights instead of two — and we build the soak into your evenings there.

The water rises from Arenal’s magmatic heart — naturally hot, never artificially warmed.

Real thermal water carrying bicarbonates, magnesium and calcium — the difference you feel the moment you step in.

Warm water under a tropical downpour is one of Arenal’s quiet pleasures. It’s wonderful year-round, in any weather.

Warm pools and cooler ones, gentle entries, family-friendly throughout.

Soaking eases tense muscles and joints, calms the mind, and recharges you for the next day.

Travelers choose the hot springs to feel completely immersed in rejuvenating water — and to feel the lasting effects of the volcanic minerals it carries. The water is naturally balanced with calcium bicarbonates and magnesium, the kind of minerals long associated with relaxing muscles, easing aches, and bringing a deep sense of calm. It’s an ancient ritual of rejuvenation, and Arenal happens to be one of the best places on earth to keep it.

There’s real science behind the magic. The springs we use draw their heat straight from the magmatic core of Arenal Volcano, surfacing at a comfortable, swimmable warmth somewhere around the high-20s to low-30s Celsius. That volcanic origin is exactly what gives the water its mineral signature and its silky feel — a world away from a chlorinated hotel pool.

Where you soak depends on your trip. Because you stay in one of our own homes in La Fortuna, we take you to a family-founded thermal sanctuary a few minutes away: a complex of naturally heated pools and fresh-water springs, set on land a local family turned, over more than three decades, from farmland into an intimate eco-oasis. It’s quieter and more natural than the big commercial parks, with a genuine commitment to conservation and a kitchen worth lingering for. If you upgrade to a resort with its own thermal water on the property, we use that instead — no transfer, no extra ticket.

Either way, the feeling is the same. You ease in as the light fades, the warmth works into your shoulders, and the rainforest hums around you. Kids splash in the cooler pools; you drift toward the warm ones. And because the water is naturally heated rather than chlorinated, an evening soak is just as good in the rain as it is under the stars.

It’s woven into the evenings of every Destitrip trip — not as a rushed add-on, but as the built-in wind-down that ties the whole adventure together.
