Our signature route · 9 days / 8 nights ·
Arenal + Monteverde + Manuel Antonio
Three Costa Ricas.
Two drives. Nine days.
Four nights at the volcano, two in the cloud forest, two on the Pacific — the route the country actually rewards.
Tailored quote
Most people only see one Costa Rica
They land, drive three hours to the volcano, and spend four days watching it appear and disappear behind its own weather. It’s a good four days. Then they fly home believing they’ve seen the country — when what they’ve seen is the first chapter.
The cloud forest and the Pacific are the other two. They’re the reason people come back a second time to do it properly. This is the trip that doesn’t make you come back twice.
What usually goes wrong
The nine-day Costa Rica trip is the one travelers get wrong most often. Either they cram in six stops and spend the week in a van, or they park in one town and spend the flight home wondering what was over the mountain. And nobody tells them about the drives until the morning of. Pieced together from three time zones away, you only find out which mistake you made after you’ve landed. There is a version that doesn’t do that to you. It took 62,000 reviews to find it.

What you get instead
This is that version, and we didn’t guess at it — we read what 62,000 travelers actually said about what worked and what wasted their time. Four nights at the volcano, where everything worth doing is thirty minutes from your door. Then a morning crossing Lake Arenal by boat, into a cloud forest that looks like nowhere else on earth. Then down to where the rainforest runs straight into the Pacific — and the last full day is a national park at sunrise and a catamaran at sunset. Three places. Two drives. No filler. Here is every single thing that’s in it.
Your 9 days
Day by day

Day 1
Arrival, and nothing else
-
Transfer from SJO to La Fortuna (~3–3.5h).
-
Settle into your home at the foot of the volcano.
-
The evening is deliberately empty — flights run late, and we’d rather you start rested than on schedule.

Day 2
Sloths, a waterfall, and hot water
-
Guided sloth and wildlife walk — the single thing travelers remember most.
-
La Fortuna Waterfall — the stairs down are real, and worth it.
-
The natural hot springs as the sun goes down. This is the reset.

Day 3
The volcano, then the farm
-
Guided volcano expedition with a naturalist — lava trails, Lake Tabacón, the lookouts.
-
Afternoon on a four-generation family farm: coffee from cherry to cup, cacao from pod to bar, sugar cane pressed in between.
-
There are two versions of this day: one that climbs, paddles and swims, and one that is the night volcano at walking pace. You will not be handed a menu — we ask who is coming before you arrive, and we book the one that fits.
-
Back home early. Tomorrow is yours.

Day 4
Hanging bridges — and your call
-
Hanging bridges through the rainforest with a naturalist guide.
-
The rest of the day is an open slot: caves, a second evening in the hot springs, a night walk, or nothing at all.
-
Tell us what you like and we’ll fill it — or leave it empty on purpose.

Day 5
Across the lake, into the clouds
-
The Lake Arenal crossing — boat, with the volcano behind you.
-
Arrive in Monteverde around midday.
-
Afternoon free. You’ve just changed ecosystems; take a minute.

Day 6
The cloud forest
-
Canopy / zip-line above the forest, first thing.
-
Guided walk through a cloud forest reserve in the afternoon — this is why Monteverde exists, and the reserve we use caps its groups at nine.
-
One full day, done properly, instead of three things done badly.

Day 7
Down to the Pacific
-
Transfer to Manuel Antonio (~4–4.5h). We won’t pretend it’s short.
-
Arrive to the coast in the afternoon.
-
Nothing is planned for the evening. Four hours of road earns you one.

Day 8
The park early, the beach after
-
Manuel Antonio National Park with a licensed guide, early — when the wildlife is actually awake, and in a group capped at eight instead of the fifty a standard tour allows.
-
Then the beach, all afternoon. Eight days in, you have earned a whole one.
-
If you would rather be on the water, there is a catamaran and a Pacific sunset. It is an option, not part of the price — and we will tell you straight whether it sails the week you come, because in the rainy months the afternoon boat does not go out.

Day 9
Home
-
Transfer to SJO (~2.5–3h).
-
If your flight leaves before early afternoon, we’ll add a night near the airport rather than start your last day at 4 a.m.

What this trip looks like

How we price this
We don’t compete on being cheap, and we don’t mark up the handling. Every activity in your trip is billed at the operator’s own published rate — the same number you’d pay walking up to their desk yourself. What you’re not charged for is the part that took us years: reading 62,000 reviews to work out which desks are worth walking up to, and being there at seven in the morning when it’s raining on day three.
Included experiences
The experiences inside this trip
Every one hand-picked, and held to the same bar as the rest of your trip. Tap through for the full story.

Wildlife & Sloths
The #1 reason travelers remember Arenal — sloths, birds and frogs, with a guide who spots what you’d walk right past.

Arenal Volcano
The volcano up close, hanging bridges and the Lake Tabacón — the views that put La Fortuna on the map.

Coffee & Chocolate Farm
Roast, grind and taste real Costa Rican cacao on a family farm. The hands-on experience the big operators skip.

Hot Springs
Naturally heated rivers at the foot of the volcano — the reset every Arenal trip is built around.

Canopy & Zip-line
Fly over the canopy — a gentle double cable course for families, a 1 km line for the brave.

Rafting & Canyoning
Whitewater and waterfall rappels with safety-audited operators. Adrenaline, done right.

Monteverde Cloud Forest
Primary cloud forest with a naturalist. The forest appears and disappears around you while you stand still.

Manuel Antonio Park
Sloths and capuchins where the rainforest walks onto the sand – worth double with a guide, and half without.

Catamaran & Sunset
The Pacific on the last evening, from the water. We put it at the end of the route on purpose.

Vetted, not guessed
Why these partners
In Arenal we scored 25 operators across 62,000 reviews and kept 8. Every partner we add anywhere else clears the same bar.
Your own private home
Where you stay, in all three regions
Not a hotel room. A place with a kitchen, a door and space to spread out — booked directly with the owner, seen in person by us before you ever set foot in it.
A private volcano park
Guided volcano expedition
Private trails to the lava flow and Lake Tabacón, with a naturalist rather than a ticket booth — because a guide is the single thing that separates a good day from a forgettable one.
A four-generation
family farm
Coffee, chocolate & cane
The highest-scoring partner in our entire 62,000-review study, and the #1 Food & Drink tour in La Fortuna. Three crops on one farm — you come for the coffee, which is genuinely excellent, and you leave talking about the chocolate. Nothing here is a staged demo.
A private rainforest
reserve
Sloths & wildlife
A guide with a telescope who finds what you’d walk straight past. Wildlife is the #1 thing travelers remember about Costa Rica — we don’t leave it to luck.
A hanging bridges park
Rainforest bridges
Small groups and a naturalist guide, on the bridges with volcano views — chosen over the busier options on purpose.
A cloud forest reserve
Monteverde
Primary cloud forest with a guide, not a theme park. Held to the same bar as everything above.
A safety-audited
canopy outfitter
Zip-line in Monteverde
We rejected the obvious, convenient choice here — its own reviewers reported worn harnesses. We’d rather send you somewhere less famous and know you’re coming back.
A licensed national
park guide
Manuel Antonio
The park is worth double with someone who knows where to look, and nearly wasted without.
A catamaran operator
The optional Pacific afternoon
Only if you want the water. We picked the one that refunds you in full when the weather cancels — on this ocean that is not a formality, and most operators do not.
Before you ask
Questions, answered
There are two. Arenal to Monteverde is about three and a half hours, and most of it is crossing Lake Arenal by boat with the volcano behind you — people photograph that morning, they don’t endure it. Monteverde down to Manuel Antonio is roughly four hours by road, and there’s no way to make that shorter. We put both in writing before you book, because finding out at 7 a.m. on day five is exactly how other people’s trips get ruined.
It’s the length the route needs. Four nights in Arenal because that’s how much is genuinely there; two in Monteverde and two in Manuel Antonio because that’s what each one earns. Cut it shorter and you’re paying for drives instead of days. If you only have five, take Arenal Complete instead — we’d rather sell you the right trip than the bigger one.
It means a place of your own in each region: a kitchen, a door, room to spread out, and nobody’s lobby to walk through. We contract directly with owners we’ve visited in person, and it’s why the trip costs what it does. If you’d rather have a hotel, say so — we have vetted ones and we’ll swap them in.
No. One price covers your stays, guides, every activity above, all transfers between regions and the airport runs. If a cost you weren’t told about ever appears, we cover it.
Yes. Every guide is English-speaking, and a real coordinator is reachable every day of the trip — fast while we’re working, by phone if it’s urgent.
“The lake crossing into Monteverde was the moment the trip turned. We’d have never booked that ourselves — we’d have driven around and hated it.”
Risk-free
Our launch guarantee: Transparent Price + Real Response
Your price includes everything. If a cost you weren’t told about ever shows up, we cover it. And once you’re here, a real person answers in under 15 minutes while we’re working — with a number to call for anything urgent, day or night.
Fully custom
Ready to plan your Costa Rica trip?
Tell us who’s coming and what you love. You’ll get an instant reply on WhatsApp and book twenty minutes with Marco on video — he walks the route and tells you honestly what fits. No obligation, and no charge for the truth.
One honest note on timing. What we’re describing — Marco on a video call with you, one coordinator who knows your whole trip and your name, someone reachable every day you’re there — only works at small numbers. Past a certain point we’d become the kind of company we built this one to avoid. Add five homes at the foot of the volcano that hold eighteen people, and a December-to-April calendar that goes to whoever asks first, and that’s the whole limit. No countdown. Just a ceiling we keep on purpose.
